The absurd farce
It happens that when I get burnt out by Debian (I might blog about that later, but then I just might not) I am forced to face the real world just to learn that Debian was not so bad to begin with. Oh, the irony! I need to smoke more so that I spend less time involved in this crap nobody can change. It is hard enough to change Debian, I don't even want to think about the rest.

If you want to understand the world crisis you are living in...

"I am forced to face the real world just to learn that Debian was not so bad to begin with." We're not poisonous. Just a bit disappointed.

I can't explain how or when I got tired of Debian, but I've had a lot of trouble caring enough to get involved again. Maybe one day in a couple of years, but I do feel like I can have so much more useful effect on the real world, either through telling people about veganism, talking about the importance of decent sex ed in reducing teen pregnancies, or even just being one more person who bikes to work.

With Debian it always felt like anything that had to be fought for was always fighting against people who had way too much time to just spend arguing.

I do miss some of the friends that I haven't kept in contact with, though.

I love how the internet makes publication accessible to everyone, but its unfortunate how loud minority viewpoints are today, and how little rebuttal these memes receive. "Money as debt" is particularly painful to watch. I can't stand to watch for very long as I'm no longer 4 years old, but it sets up at least as few strawmen. If that video were at all instructive, I wouldn't get Internet Libertarians on the local LUG IRC channel telling me that banks print money that you and I can't, and that they'd support some sort of percentage based lending system instead.

I guess what I'm saying is that the world isn't in the crisis that these documentaries want us to believe. Are Americans feeling the squeeze? Sure. But it's only been after a pretty damned good run up in housing prices and an otherwise inexplicable recovery from the last recession. Today's politician's have a lot of work to do to address the fundamental problems, but fiat currency isn't one of them.

On the plus side, if the world's troubles aren't that bad, perhaps Debian's troubles can be fixed too.
